Art for the office
How to Choose Art for Your Office (It Is Not About Matching the Sofa)
By Zhanna Mezhenska · October 7, 2026
Choosing office art feels harder than it should. Here is a simple way to think about it.
First, size. A good rule: the artwork should be 60 to 90 percent of the width of the furniture below it. Anything smaller gets lost; anything bigger swallows the room. Hang it at eye level - around 57 to 60 inches from the floor to the center.
Second, color. Blues and greens tend to calm a busy mind. Warm tones add energy to a dull space. Neutrals keep things professional but can feel cold without a living accent.
Third - and this is the step most people skip - ask what the room is for. A reception area should welcome. A meeting room should help people think clearly. A private office should recharge its owner.
That is where I come in with a different approach. Beyond color and size, I help choose - or create - a painting with an intention that matches the room's purpose: focus for the meeting room, trust for the reception, calm for the private office.
Your walls are never neutral. They either support the people in the room or quietly work against them.
