Why Smart Teams Are Picking Up Paintbrushes

By Zhanna Mezhenska · October 7, 2026

Another trust fall? Another escape room? Teams are tired of team building that feels like school.

Here is what is replacing it: a screen-free hour where colleagues paint side by side. No art skills needed - that is the point. When people stop performing and start creating, something shifts. Shoulders drop. People laugh. Colleagues who only knew each other from video calls suddenly talk like humans.

Research keeps pointing the same way. The British Council for Offices found that 61% of workers say artwork makes their workplace more welcoming, and 50% say it directly improves their productivity. A well-known Exeter University study found that people in spaces enriched with art and plants worked 17% more productively - and when they arranged the space themselves, the number rose to around 30%.

I run Employee Wellbeing + Team Experience sessions: a guided, hands-on pause where your team creates together and everyone leaves with their own finished painting. Many participants describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more connected afterward.

If your team needs something more meaningful than the usual pizza party, let us talk.
